Andy Abrahams - Sandhurst

My name is Andy Abrahams and I am appealing for your support to win the Sandhurst Ward for the Labour Party in the Councillor election in May 2019.

I am a family man; my wife has worked as a midwife at Kings Mill hospital for 38 years and have 4, now grown up children, who were educated at King Edward, High Oakham and Brunts schools. When my children were younger, I was a governor at High Oakham Primary School.

I was brought up on Ladybrook Estate, my father worked at the Hosiery Mills and then Crown Farm Pit and my mum was a cleaner. I have a solid grounding and broad experience of life having worked for 25 years in local government and industry as a chartered civil engineer and for 15 years in education as a Math’s teacher in socially deprived areas where there has been historically low attainment.

My job for the last 4 years has been as a teacher/social worker with Real Education where I look after the educational needs of pupils with extreme challenges in their life’s who have been permanently excluded from school. I carry out voluntary work with the homeless at the Beacon Project, Mansfield and participated in numerous community and environmental projects both at home and abroad.

Mansfield has not been served well by the ’so called’ Independents who wastefully invest in Doncaster, Edinburgh and Manchester but not in Mansfield town centre which is increasingly looking run down and neglected. There is insufficient affordable housing and the lack of commitment to social services has led to an increase in drug use and crime. It is time for a change for a party whose policies look after the many not the few. I believe in social fairness and equality that allows everybody to succeed to their potential.

If elected, I will work hard to improve the local environment and community safety, protect parks and green spaces and represent all the residents of Sandhurst to the best of my ability. You can find out more about me and what we could achieve together on my face book page.
