My name is Shane Draper and I have been chosen as the Labour Party candidate for the King’s Walk ward in the District Council elections on May 2nd this year.
I have lived locally all my life. I was raised in Rainworth and currently live in Forest Town so I have a good understanding of the issues facing the wider area. Additionally, that means I am well aware of who we are in Mansfield and what motivates this great town!
I am locally educated and gained my Honours Degree in Criminal Justice through Vision West Notts in partnership with Derby University. Following this, I went onto gain a Masters Degree in Political Studies at Nottingham Trent.
I am particularly interested in the areas of housing, homelessness and the approaches to mental health in the local area. If we are to promote social mobility, it is paramount that we can give residents their basic right to a safe place to live and healthcare. I have also been involved with schemes such as the Mansfield Shoe Box Appeal, with the aim of making lives of the homeless a little more bearable.
If elected, my aim would be to not only properly represent the King’s Walk ward but to work hard to improve our district and help create a society we can all be proud of.
