1,325 hero nurses in our area are over £3m worse off thanks to Conservative pay cuts – new analysis

New figures reveal the 1,325 nurses and health visitors in our area currently facing a real terms pay cut thanks to the Conservatives, are more than £3m worse off than they would have been 10 years ago.

At the budget it was revealed that the Conservatives are offering nurses just a 1% pay settlement – below inflation and therefore a real terms cut, even after a year in which nurses have fought on the frontline against the Coronavirus pandemic whilst:

  • Dominic Cummings received a 40% pay rise,
  • Ministers spent £37bn on track and trace that hasn’t worked
  • Have so far given £2bn in crony contracts to their friends and donors.

There are 1,289 nurses and health visitors working in Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, 36 in NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG, making a total of 1,325 nurses facing a pay cut in our area. Each is on average £2,378.94 worse off – a combined £3,165,425 worse off

Publishing the data, Andy Abrahams, Mansfield’s Labour Group leader said,

“This government’s priorities are all wrong. £2bn on crony contracts, £37bn on a test and trace system that doesn’t work, yet when it comes to rewarding our nurses in our area after a year on the frontline this Conservative government demands a pay cut.

“It’s outrageous, and insulting – but it’s also not new. This is what the Conservatives choose every time. Nurses today are more than £2,000 worse off than they would be under 2010 pay – across our area that’s over £3m.

“How can it be right that in a year that Dominic Cummings drove to Barnard Castle and picked up a 40% pay rise, nurses save countless lives and get a pay cut? Ministers will have to u-turn on this – they should do it now and save an awful lot of people an awful lot of stress.”
